Mining World Heritage: What Makes Us Who We Are?

Thursday 7 November 2024 6:00pm

What is the significance of Durham's industrial heritage in the 21st century? Hear from Ross Forbes, Chief Executive of the Durham Miners’ Association, in the latest Durham Cathedral Institute talk.

As the world seeks to 'go green', how should we commemorate Durham's identity as a region synonymous with the mining of coal? And, in a post-industrial age, how may we answer the question: what makes us who we are?

Durham Cathedral Institute is delighted to be hosting this public lecture on Durham's UNESCO World Heritage Site in partnership with the Institute of Medieval and Early Modern Studies (IMEMS) at Durham University. The lecture (6-6.45pm) will be followed by a panel discussion, chaired by Professor Ita Mac Carthy and featuring, among others, the Chancellor Fiona Hill (6.45-7.15pm), and an opportunity to view an exhibition of miners' banners in the Cathedral.
