Pillars of Hope: Safeguarding Week 2024

Tuesday 24 September 2024 - Sunday 29 September 2024

Durham Cathedral is a safe space where everyone is welcome. We are hosting our third Safeguarding Week to show support for victims and survivors of abuse, and encourage our community to reflect on the words of those whose lives have been affected by abuse.

All are welcome to reflect on Pillars of Hope an installation in the Galilee Chapel.

This installation in the cathedral’s Galilee Chapel gives a voice to victims and survivors of abuse. Thought-provoking poems and audio recordings created by survivors of abuse will be on display, which were first created through a project with Newcastle Cathedral. Everyone is invited to add a ribbon to a rope running through the chapel to show your support for victims and survivors of abuse.

See Pillars of Hope during the cathedral's visiting hours, 10am - 4pm Tuesday to Saturday and 12 noon - 4pm on Sunday.

Chaplains will be on duty all week in the cathedral, should any visitors want to talk privately to someone.

If you would like to add a ribbon to the installation but do not wish to enter the cathedral or are unable to, you can use the link below to select a colour ribbon and a cathedral member of staff will tie your chosen ribbon to the installation, on your behalf. Select your ribbon here.
